Drinks:
- · Make sure your child drink 100% juice and not juice that contains added sugar.
- · Avoid your children to drink sodas or soft drinks
- · Avoid juice that contains added sugar like Kool-Aid
- · Avoid sport drinks like Gatorade.
Snacks:
- · Chopped pieces of fruit and vegetables and try to be creative with the food so the children can eat them more easily.
- · Pita bread and hummus are healthy for them.
- · Low-fat yogurt with fruit or cereal.
- · Whole-grain crackers with low-fat cheese and peanut butter.
- · Avoid French fries and chips.
- · Avoid candies, chocolate, cookies and cakes.
- · Avoid ice cream and frozen desserts.
Food:
- · Children should eat 2 cups of dairy a day. Dairy Food is food that provides calcium, potassium and vitamin D.
- · Children should eat 3-5 ounces of meat and beans a day.
- · Children should eat 3-5 ounces of grains a day. Fiber, B vitamins and minerals are considered grains.
- · Children should eat 1-1 ½ cups of fruit a day.
- · Children should eat 1-2 cups of vegetables a day.
